Doing The Math - Lewis Can Win Title in China

Lewis needs a win and Massa must finish fifth or lower.

From F1Live.com

Six points - that's the additional points advantage Lewis Hamilton needs from the Chinese Grand Prix to be crowned world champion with one race to spare in Brazil.

Should the McLaren driver manage to extend his current five-point championship lead to 11 points in Shanghai, he will be guaranteed the drivers' title from Felipe Massa and Robert Kubica.

A ten point advantage going into November's Brazilian Grand Prix will not necessarily be enough for the 23-year-old, as a points tie with Massa would hand the championship to the local, who has scored five wins compared with Hamilton's four in 2008.

To pull out six points in China, Hamilton would need to win the race while Ferrari's Massa finishes fifth or lower.

If Hamilton is second, Massa needs to be lower than seventh, and a championship-winning third place for the Briton would require Massa to finish the race out of the points.

"For sure whoever does the best job will finish at the top," Hamilton said on Thursday.

Massa said in Shanghai he is not feeling any extra pressure about the task he faces this weekend.

"My attitude has not really changed now from what it was much earlier in the season and I think it will be the same at the last race," he said.

Even if you don't post - take the poll above. Nobody's gonna turn you into the F-Chat police if you vote for McLaren. Although, they may pay a visit to your friends and family . . . .

Not a fan of Massa, or Ferrari.
Lewis, McLaren ... I kinda dig that.
But I really like the idea of Kubica being a world champ ...

+1. He's so goofy looking, so I feel kinda...what's the word I'm looking for here... sorry for the guy. You know he isn't pulling as much quality tail as Hamilton, or his team mate Heidfeld, so he needs something to validate himself, right?

In any case, I'm really rooting for Hamilton but I'm hoping there will be an awesome fight for the title. Ideally, I'd like to see Massa win in China and have Hamilton come in 2nd. That'll make the battle for the championship especially intense! I want Hammy to win overall though.

I'm pulling for Hammy, though I can't get his performance in China and Brazil in the '07 season out of my mind.

Bernie would love to see Phil take it in Brazil.

Going for Massa. Like said before, It would be great If Kubica took it but I've always been a Ferrari fan.

Come to think of it, what I'm looking for is actually 2 clean races, where race drivers can overtake each other without getting a 25s penalty ...

MASSA!!!

But I seriously doubt LH is going to cough up the WDC two years in a row. It would be nice though...
