F1: 2009 French Grand Prix CancelledWritten by: SPEED Staff / GMM 10/15/2008 - 03:48 PM

Paris, France Financial difficulties with the French federation mean the 2009 schedule has dropped to 17races. (LAT Photo) » More Photos
The French motorsports federation has announced that it will not promote the race in 2009 due to financial difficulties.

"For reasons related to the financial situation, the Federation Francaise du Sport Automobile (FFSA) has decided to cancel the Grand Prix of France," said the entity in a statement.

"The FFSA would like tothank all customers who attended the Grand Prix of France and have supported this international event in recent years."

The French race was on the calendar announced earlier this month by the FIA for the 2009 season. The decision leaves the 2009 calendar with 17 races after the Canadian Grand Prix was also absent from the schedule.

No biggie. French GP has been pretty lame ever since it left the Paul Ricard.

Send it back to Canada!

DJ, is Bernie on the Team yet? Get him to sign up so he can see the hords of followers for the Montreal GP.

That's ironic considering it was the French GP which got Bernie started.

I recall the story of him carrying back briefcases full of cash into England after the French GP....
