Colour change when saving as jpg?

Ok, I have this very annoying issue with PShop. A friend has the same prob, I run CS and he runs CS3.

When saved as a jpg, the colours change slightly. In PShop a vibrant red will become somewhat orange in jpg. I also noticed they get a bit darker as well.

This really sucks. I spend ages tweaking to get the right color ... and when saved it turns out like crap.

Any way to solve this issue???

gramicci101 is an unknown quantity at this point
It's due to image compression. When you save in photoshop it wil give you options for quality of jpeg, set it to the highest point. Otherwise save it as a .png.

I set the quality to the max, no change.

png, exact same problem ... it's the same compression after all.

Are you saving it as CMYK or RGB?

You are going to lose pixels converting to jpeg no matter what color space you are coming from.

yeah I understand the concept of jpg compression ... but it bugs me when the end colour changes altogether.

What color space are you using while editing in PS and what, if any, are you embedding in the exported file? More often than not, I'll see people with similar complaints after editing in, for instance, Adobe RGB and exporting it with either a different profile embedded, or none at all (and then the various programs resort to their standard profile, which might be different).

Just checked, I'm using the default stuff, the working space is sRGB IEC61966-2.1, and the exact same ICC for the Save As.

I'm not really a noob to PS, but this has me totally stumped.

It's still a rather minute difference, as I can't notice it on my laptop screen, but I can definitely see it on the 22" Samsung ...

actually you are not loosing pixels, the resolution stays the same

jpeg compression is like phd in math complicated ... but in short... the colors will never be as vibrant

You can compensate by playing with saturation and making sure that if you need it for the interwebz you actually "save for web"

You can goog a bunch of info on saving and color spaces
