I had the same dilemma as you, I went into the store to buy the 50 1.4 but got out with the 85 1.8, couldn't be happier

 

Yeah I think I'll go that route, after all I still have the 18-55 kitlens so getting another lens within that range is a bit pointless. Although the 1.4 50mm is a lot better quality glass.

So finally after roaming through the city for 2 hours I found a shop wich still had a single 85 1.8 in stock. I just tried it and holy bejeebus this thing is sweet, I messed up with the settings because I had my camera in Av mode with the aperture set to 1.8 so all my pics came out way overexposed due to the harsh midday sunlight but the crispness this lens offers is still very apparent.
