Sigma 24-70 2.8....Need some help...

Interested in getting a new toy and want something that would have a large aperture and zoom. Seems that a lot of photog's love the 24-70 2.8, especially the Nikon piece. However, I can't spend the $1,500-2k that the Nikon is. So my second option is the Sigma 24-70mm 2.8. I already own a Sigma 10-20mm wide angle and have to say I'm quite pleased with it. In any case, has anyone tried/own a Sigma 24-70mm 2.8?? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

You might also want to consider the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8. I absolutely love mine on my D700. It's great on my D200 as well.

And for ~$400, you really can't go wrong.
