Great pictures, but what a moron. At least wear a dry suite, or like you guys said a tripod in the water for 3 months with a remote switch. Of course with a tripod he might not be able to certain things needed to get a great shot. But why not a Dry Suite? They're not that expensive.

Tripod would limit him severely. The animals he would be photographing would obviously be moving around a whole hell of a lot and not necessarily always static in where they would be positioned either.

My question would be why not use super telephoto lenses?

He was right up in their shit. No way in hell you'd find me there.

They make 400 / 500 / 600 / 800 and even (far fetched) 1200mm primes.

Why not get / rent or photograph on assignment for a company that will lend you a 600mm and a 1.4x converter?!

You'd still get the action.... safely from about 1/4 mile away.

With that said, his photos are unbelievable and hugely worthy of any and all front covers or double trucks he receives from the images!

Yeah, I'd definitely go for a super tele prime. But one of the great things about a good shot is the story behind it.

My favorite part of "Life" on Discovery is the last 5 minutes where they show how the film crew got the shots. It's more inspiring to me than the actual program.
