What lenses should i get? Nikon

Im gonna get a new camera now, D700 probably, i guess no replacer will be out before summer so. It will replace my old D70.

I have a 70-300mm VR today. But im looking at changing to a 70-200mm VR II and maybe a 24-70mm 2.8 or what lense(s) should i get? Will be used for car photos mostly.

The 14-24 f/2.8, 24-70 f/2.8, and 70-200 f/2.8 are called the "holy trinity" of Nikon glass for good reason. Get any or all of those lenses and you'll be set for life. The D700 is a fantastic cam, btw.

One more thing: if the 24-70 seems a bit too pricey, look for used copies of the Nikkor 28-70 f/2.8. It's 99% as good for ~$800 less. From what I've heard, the 70-200 f/2.8 VRII is lightyears better than the VRI on FF cameras too.

I've got 3 of the 4 listed above ( not the 14-24) and love them. Wish I had the D700 instead of my D3 because of the size difference. You will love all of it

If you ever want to sell your D3, let me know... I've been aching for one for awhile.

Atomic 80 might sell his. I just don't know with him he's still got d1's d2's etc in his collection. Better yet he's in Europe for 2 weeks I can just swing by his house and sell you his. TEAMSPEED 5 finger discount. He might not even notice......let's just hope he doesn't log into this thread ! I'm going to keep mine and just deal with it. It's 1000 times more camera than I need but I just can't see learning another.

haha sounds good to me, Mark. I've tried to buy some of his other equipment from him but he never sells it. I doubt he'd notice anything was missing anyway. Hook a brother up!

How is the 24-70 to use?

I've been looking on that one too but those other two lenses will be expensive enough for me.

I use it all of the time. You can stand 6ft from a car and get it all. Fantastic lense. It's my most used. I'm no photopro. I just love taking snaps occassionally.

Alzilla lets see if Atomic is watching this in Italy. I'll get a text from him sho enough if he is telling me to leave his camera stuff alone. He's got a 500mm or 600mm Nikon Lense I really want bad....I'll take it one day. He should have never given me the garage code so I can take the snowmobiles whenever I want.
