JC wants a DLR camera. Ideas???

After seeing all the photos from many talented TS members I've decided to update my own gear for track days and such. I'm looking for ideas on a camera that's not too expensive, but relatively good quality. Any help will be very much appreciated.---JC

Budget? Regardless of that, remember not to cheap out on a lens! Lenses don't really drop in value, bodies do.

Can't go wrong with a Nikon D90. Costco had a package deal for a while with a lens and a flash. It is the sweet spot of performance and price. It also shoots HD video!

I agree with Dana. I shoot with a Nikon D90, Nikkor 18-200 VR lens, and a Nikon SB-600 flash. For non-professional use, it's an excellent combination. You simply cannot go wrong.

No budget really, I just don't want anything too cheap, or on the other hand something that may be overkill b/c I haven't been serious about photography since high school and a lot has changed since then...like the whole digital thing.

I will add another vote towards the Nikon camera bodies. That's all that I've used, and recommend to for others.

Nikon just released the D5000 - Nikon | D5000 Digital SLR Camera (Camera Body) | 25452 | B&H

Go to Best Buy and pick up the Nikon D200 for $600. It's an amazing camera for the money and it's about 1/3 of the price when it first came out. I love mine!

I love this camera, however, the button layout and functionality of this camera is quite cumbersome. I wouldn't recommend it now that the D90 is out.
