How to adjust size of pics?

Just got a new camera and was going to post some pics but it says that the image is too big. I've never messed with this type of stuff before, I'm assuming I need photoshop? I'm sure this is a ridiculously simple question so take it easy on me.

Just go here http://imageshack.us/ then click the resize image to 800x600 and click upload. Then once it uploads copy and paste the "Hotlink for forums (1)" I like to remove the URL=http://imageshack.us /URL and just use the img link. The url is so if you click on the picture it takes you to imageshack.

Are you using a PC?? You can also right click the pic, hit edit, it will bring you into a editing/paint program then hit control+w I believe. It will then be in sketch and skew, you can resize that way by decreasing the 100%/100% to like 50 50, 65/65 w/e you want until you like the size!

Also if you have a valid copy of windows you can dl the image resizer. The quality of the resize isnt that great but to post online it works well.
