Mystery Audi R8 GT Spotted at the Ring

Today our Teamspeed spies caught this strange looking Audi R8 GT putting in some hot laps at the ring. What makes this Audi R8 strange to us is we can't pinpoint if this is some highly modified R8 by an aftermarket tuner, or a special edition that Audi has in the works.

So why does this particular R8 make us scratch our heads? Well for a starters it is a non-facelift model, but affixed with a few tasty bits we normally wouldn't find on a R8 GT like an air-outlet similar to the one found on the GT3 race car, winglets or dive-planes on the front spoiler are bigger then usual on the current GT, and the rear wing is also clearly bigger.

So what is it? A mule for a an updated GT? Some kind of special edition? We will just have to wait for Audi gives us some more clues.

So when will we get a new model and not just a refresh!!??

 

Those look like aftermarket wheels, not something the factory would use on a test mule. My guess is it's a tuner car...

I found this version much better looking that the current GT. Are the Rear Rims an inch larger? Maybe the images are playing with my mind.
