With the 2013 R8 refresh having just been announced, I imagine these are built to use up left over parts and give the previous generation a little boost a la Porsche 997 and their "special editions".

I always hated the R-tronic, much like the Ferrari F1 transmission, it was too clunky to work smoothly in the city, where, let's face it, these cars mostly end up being used.
