Audi files trademarks for Q6, Q8, R6, S2, S9, RS8 & RS1

Audi files trademarks for Q6, Q8, R6, S2, S9, RS8 & RS1

According to a brief report by Dutch site telegraaf, Audi has filed trademarks for a vast range of new models that could join their line-up.

It suggests the brand are considering introducing a couple of new SUVs labeled the Q6 and Q8 while an exciting range of performance orientated models could be in the pipeline consisting of the R6, S2, S9, RS8 and RS1. Additionally, Audi has registered E-diesel, E-gasoline and gasoline-e which suggests further electric powertrain options are set to be offered in addition to the e-tron technology.

Speculation time

Audi's SUV line-up has long been speculated to to expand past the standard Q3, Q5 and Q7 models with additional options that could rival the BMW X6. The new patent registrations opens the door for the brand to produce sportier SUV coupe variants based on the Q5 and Q7 architectures.

The R6 would be reserved for a smaller sports car that could sit below the Audi R8, but it remains to be seen whether it would slot in above the TT model variants or just just simply replace them.

The RS8 is another model fans have hoped would be in the pipeline ever since the R8 was launched back in 2006. The RS1 meanwhile is potentially a production version of the A1 Clubsport Quattro Concept that boasted 503 PS (370 kW / 496 bhp).

Audi are planning on reviving their A2 nameplate and they previewed the future in concept form at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year. The report of an S2 patent confirms the series will also get a higher performance version as well.

Last but not least comes the S9, a name that suggests Audi are planning on introducing a new halo car to their brand.

I thouht the RS8 would be a suped up version of the A8? The R8 has the V8 model, the V10 model and the GT already.

Model overkill... The current CAR magazine has a good editorial about the overkill of different models. Every car company built on a niche (BMW, Porsche, etc.) has being gradually (or rapidly) trying to become the "Everything for everyone" car company. Audi is doing the same. I suppose it's OK if it works, but more often than not.... X1, 5GT, X6 anyone?

Lol that's because it's BMW, Audi has had much more success, at least with it's 5GT-killer the A7. And last time I checked, the X6 hasn't exactly been selling slowly, I see one almost every day, almost more than I see the X5.

An RS8 is an interesting concept. I always assumed that the reason Audi never built such a thing is because the market didn't exist (much like BMW refuses to build an M7). It would definitely be cool to see a more "hardcore" interpretation of an A8
