They could make a "Special Ducati Edition" R8, put some cool badging, colors and wheels, limit it to a small number, bump the price $25k, throw in a bike with it and still come out way ahead and they would sell like crazy.

Yes, but one was because Mark had to have it and he didn't want Twitter to have it (also it makes zero money and is based on pure speculation), and the other actually makes stuff that makes money. 
So it's easier to value that one more appropriately.

Probably, if Mercedes could do it, why not Audi. Plus as if you need a reason to buy a ducati, or an R8, stand alone they are the best of both worlds. Except for the Huybusa, ducati are there best there is.
