Spied: The New Audi RS4 Avant

The New Audi RS4 Avant out and about testing at the Ring
Our spies tell us Audi is in the works with the new RS4 as this mule shows. While not the final design, we still notice the RS goodies under the body shell, like the bigger brakes and wider track. The front bumper will be more aggressive with large air intakes and the fenders will be wider just like on the RS5. Talking about RS5, this mule runs on the RS5 wheels.
It’s not clear if the new RS4 will have the same V8 engine found in the RS5, or if there will be a new high reving V6 twin-turbo instead. But in order to be able to battle with both the BMW M3 and the AMG C63 from Mercedes it needs to deliver some 450 horsepower or more. Stay Tuned as always for more to come!

The car looks Great. I always thought that the RS 4 looks best in avant version.
Still i think that will be a problem with the engine. It will not be clear anymore in terms of power, what to choose.
I mean, if the RS5 -450hp, where will it be positioned?
What is the point of RS5 if they'll put an engine with over 450 hp, while getting dangereously close to the new S6 or RS6?
I think price and looks will sell this car , not the power.
I think that Audi is struggling to build a car to beat M3 so much that they are trying in any way possible. They failed with the RS5 , so now they say , let's bring back the RS4. Why?? Just to keep it in production for one and a half year ? when the new A4 is knoking on the door in 2012??

The last RS6 was nearly 600hp, so power isn't an issue between the two cars. Audi's philosophy is that the S-series cars are for sporty drivers, but the RS cars are for uncompromising drivers. I would love to see the RS4 (esp. in Avant form) here, but I'm not holding my breath. Hell, even the RS5 (which I love) won't be here anytime soon.
