Audi A6 Avant spied testing in Sweden
Set to make its debut early next year, the 2012 Audi A6 Avant is a totally revamped version of Audi's current mid-size luxury sedan/wagon. Our spies caught the new Audi cold weather testing in Sweden today.
The expected available power-trains are a choice between two gasoline engines and three diesels. A 2.0-liter TDI, is expected to achieve about 48 miles per gallon, while the hybrid will come in closer to 37-39 mpg. The other gasoline engine is a 2.8-liter naturally aspirated unit that produces 204 horsepower and 206 pound-feet of torque which may or may not be available in the States. The 3.0-liter diesel choices exist: a 204 hp/295 lb-ft example and a top-of-the-line 245 hp/368 lb-ft mill. The more powerful engine is rated at nearly 40 mpg. One can only hope for an S6 and RS6 Variant of course!

Why don't they just call all of their cars "A4" to save us the trouble? The current A4 A4 is the A4 Small, and that could be the A4 Medium. The A8 is the A4 Large.
Pretty sure that, even with that swooshy disguise, every single thing on it is interchangeable with an A4 and the only thing different is the length of the doors.

Why? It's not like it would come to the U.S. anyway, just like the RS6 sedan and Avant of previous generations.
Just when Audi is going to now fit non autotragic boxes too, oh well, we can all thank NHTSA for the high cost of FMVSS certification.

Anyone noticed more avant commercials on TV in the US lately? I don't think i'd seen a station wagon advertised in a commercial in the better part of a decade and then Audi started running ads for them this past week.
Maybe its all part of the new "eco" movement - more space but no SUV kind of thing?

It's very likely that it'll never make it over here and also not very likely that I will have the money for one anytime soon.... but neither of those are 100% so I still entertain the idea of it happening
