Arrow Audi A6 Video Review

Audi's all-new A6 is quicker, more agile and better quality than ever before, but is that enough for it to topple the 5-Series?

Everyone has an arch rival – and for the Audi A6, there’s no greater nemesis than the BMW 5-Series. In the UK, it’s never got the better of its opponent, though. It’s never looked as good, never driven as well, never had the same want-it factor.

Its aerodynamic shape boasts some sharp surfacing and a lovely curved roofline, while the neat taillights and that bold grille with its smart LED daytime running lights really finish things off.

YouTube - New Audi A6 review - Auto Express

The 242bhp 3.0-litre TDI V6 provides sports car performance with zero to 62mph in seven seconds and thanks to 500Nm of torque and a slick-shifting seven-speed S tronic automatic gearbox, overtaking is ridiculously easy. It’s extremely efficient too – returning almost 50mpg and emitting just 158g/km of CO2 – and remarkably quiet.

It doesn’t feel quite as good an all-rounder as the 5-Series though. No matter which Drive Select mode you choose, the steering feels completely removed from the action. Our S line model had 20m lower sports suspension and together with larger wheels, that makes the ride very firm indeed.

Saw it at the DC auto show. Such a nice car in real life.

I don't like the window line and the incremental styling update. The interior is nice, but I don't see this car climbing the sales rankings.
November 2010 Sales:

1. BMW 5-Series - 5,042
2. Mercedes-Ben E-Class - 4,986
3. Infiniti-M - 1,112
4. Lincoln MKS - 1,110
5. Jaguar XF - 973
6. Audi A6/S6 - 812
7. Lexus GS - 486
8. Cadillac STS -307
9. Volvo S80 - 288
10. Acura RL- 168
11. Saab 9-5 - N/A

That's not a fair comparison. The C6 A6 at the point was at the end of its life compared to the W212 E-class and the F10 5 series which were and still are Brand new models.

For me, this is the best car in it's class. Beautiful interieur, beautiful exterieur and the 3.0 TDI is one of the best engines for DD out there.

Yes but C&D still rated the C6 A6 top out of that 3. A fresh design often boosts sales, but this one does not look that fresh.

What Audi did reminds me of what Jaguar did with the previous XJ. They launched an all new car with an aluminum skin which drove really well because of its huge weight advantage, but they didn't get the sales lift of a cutting edge new car because people thought it looked just like the old one.

The only thing I find novel about the design is the headlamps.

I would have liked to have seen a more aggressive hexagonal grille like this

And a more striking rear end design, echoing the A7. Something like this.

The interior is very nice, and I love the touchpad. But when BMW has a 10.5" HD navigation screen, and Lexus has a 12" HD screen in the upcoming GS, the 7" nav screen seems a bit 2005 to me.
