What will the price for it? I'm guessing starting in the low to mid 30's?

With DSG you can sprint 0-60 in 5.5 - 6 sec without any effort but there's a lack of feeling. Only when you watch the speedo climbing you realize that the car is fast. Even a 2.0 TDI 170 HP Audi A3 FEELS faster. Sound is ok, but it's a 4 cyl and the exhaust drones a little bit at medium revs. suspension is sporty (cornering speed is quite good) but it's still everday comfortable.
But personally I would take the GTI with a little tune. R only if you need 4wd
The feeling your describing is all the weight the car has put on. Unfortunately being as stiff as the car is, it's probably the chassis and particularly difficult to tune out. It seems to be the Quattro/4Motion...

Seriously I don't understand how the Haldex can be that heavy. From memory (cant remember source) it was something like 100-200 pounds heavier than Subaru's system...

Based on the R32, that's my guess, too. Since a loaded GTI is about $30K, I'm guessing a loaded R20 (Golf R) will be about $35-36K. Possibly higher, but I don't see it getting to $40K - that's Evo/STI territory.

VW needs to put the crack pipe down and stop overpricing their cars. There are so many other better cars in that price range. Sorry to rain on the parade but this car does nothing for me.

Well just do the conversion and see what they cost over in Europe. VW is just trying to soften the blow with the price over here

I probably should have prefaced my first post with the fact that I used to be a VW owner. After 10+ trips to the service department during the first year for abnormal issues I quickly developed a love/hate relationship with the car. I frequented VWVortex so often I should have picked up on the amount of CEL threads to know better.

If the .:R car were in the $25k range it would be the complete package.
