MTM distributor Horchaus has announced they have failed to secure the required clearances to import Audi RS models into North America.

According to Horchaus, "We did not manage to work our way through the regulatory commissions to ensure that the cars indeed meet all North American regulations." While that's a little vague, the company added they "could not finalize the legalization of these vehicles here without the appropriate collaborators." The latter statement is a tad interesting because Horchaus had reportedly inked a deal with Audi to modify cars to become street legal in the United States and Canada.

As we have previously reported, Horchaus had planned to import models like the RS6, RS6 Avant, and B7 RS4 Avant. Unfortunately, that won't be happening.

On the bright side, Audi recently confirmed the RS5 will be offered in the U.S. in 2012.

a coworker of mine said his ex-boss from Germany wants to bring one to the states just so he could have a car here no one else has......he'll probably drive it on German consulate plates like his V10 TDI Phaeton

 

Well, the President of Audi USA (whom I've met ) has the only one I know of. It's a Phantom Black RS6 Avant - I saw it getting PDI'ed at Audi of Tysons one day. Amazing. It is very impressive in person. I honestly would give up my C4S for one.

I was really hoping they were going to be able to bring them in.

 

I will sell the S4 Avant and BUY the RS4 Avant in 6 speed.

The S4 Avant, while a unique car (less than 300 manual version were sold), is just too slow. The RS4 engine is way better suited for it.
