OK, apparently if your B7 2008 does not come with PDC from the factory, you get a different main harness, and your cluster only has two channels instead of three.
PDC requires three channels, and to make it work like factory, you have to get a different main harness, plus a different cluster, wihch also means you have to have the immobilizer recoded by the dealer.
This is just lousy design to the extreme.
BMW has one cluster for M and one for non M body model (say, E30), and PDC retrofit is not this involved and convuluted.
I should have known when the dealer pulled up a retrofit kit that uses the reverse light wire to power the retrofit PDC that I should just walk away.
So even if you get all the proper sensors (recessed ones versus protruding), control unit, and harness, unless you are willing to pay over a grand for a new gauge cluster, and who knows how expensive a main harness costs, you can forget about what should have been a simple add-on like BMW's.
In fact, IIRC, the Audi dealer system shows osmething like 5 different clusters for the S4 along. W-T-F!?
Why? Who thought this was good engineering practice? And who's the cost controller that let this fly?
