first thing that came to my mind
ur wife/gf goes to the hairdresser, pays 150$ and u dont even notice the slightest change in her hairstyle. and because u didnt notice anything she will ask u! thats the point when u realize her hair might be 2-3mm shorter and the shade of her hair coulda been different yesterday!

^ In keeping with the hairdressing analogy, I'd go as far as saying that those rims turn this into one of those times when you notice that she has a bad hair day and make a quip about it, and then she tells you it's her new 150 Euro hairstyle.
