Why didn't audi just make the R8 V10 look like this ?

Love the air scoop on the roof. Wonder what the V12 TDI would sound like in a production car?
None of the big TDIs in production sound any good.

I don't get why they didn't just skip the V8 & the V10 and made the V12? (Yes, I know they want to maximize their profit bla bla bla. But it's like telling your customers "f#ck you")
