Comparison of the 4.2 V8 RS4 engine vs. the 4.0 V8 M3 motor?

Yep...

This engine is an absolute blast in both the R8 and RS4. Perfectly linear power with good torque. It will never be the animal that the V10 is or compare to the 6.2 liter AMG engines, but it is as fine an example of a V8 that you can find.

Wringing that engine out with it racing towards redline is intoxicating. The last few thousand RPM are just heaven--the sound alone is worth the price.

IMO it is equally at home in both cars. In the RS4 it seemed to dominate the driving experience, whereas in the R8 it is overshadowed by the chassis whch feels as though it can take another 150 hp without a problem. Judging by my experiences in these cars, a high-output V8 is the only choice for the RS5, especially considering the character of previous RS-cars.

From what I have heard it will be something like 450-460 hp.

Anything below 500 hp in this car will be an insult. This car needs the v10 or ttv8....none of this non-forced induction v8 BS. I'm gonna be really pissed if Audi does what it does best again ---------> under-powering cars.

I'm gonna have to agree with you on this...

After all the wait, with the test car footage...blah, blah. If it's the same engine as the rs4, it'll be a let down IMHO.

That is exactly why other manufacturers still increase the power in their cars generation after generation, right?
