Strange sound from car rear

I've started to hear this annoying squeek from the back of the car when I drive. It's close to a rattle - but more of a squeeking sound. No thud, closer to a kind of high-pitched shiver if that makes any sense.... It's difficult to locate the origin but is sounds like either behind the back right seat, wheel house or from the dash behind the back seats.

Usually sounds when going over bumps but mostly on rougher roads when the car either shudders or the chassis moves horisontally (going slowly over speed bumps at an angle for instance). I don't have any stuff in the trunk, checked for any loose insulation but so far no results.

Anyone experience the same or care to speculate on the reason?

Did you check in the trunk? Sounds like a dead body to me.

Do you have fold down rear seats? If so fold down, wrap U-hook with a layer or two of electricians tape, re-latch seat and see if its fixed.

Wow, this actually worked like a charm. Massive rep for you SLC4S for coming up with that. Didn't imagine I'd repair my RS4 with tape..

haha, awesome I'm glad it worked... Germans all have the same issues, had the same sound in my 1.8T jetta in high school and somebody told me to try that and it worked, glad I could pass along the tip.

Damn SLC4S beat me to it - I was just about to tell you grease up the folding seats. I had the exact same problem in my S and it was driving me absolutely INSANE before I located it.
