Real open ocean racing again
Don Aronow Memorial Race
On June 20th there will be a real open ocean race again. The course will go from Sunny Isles (North Miami) to Bimini and back, across the Gulfstream twice.
The race is being held to honor Don Aronow, and to benefit the "Take Stock in Children" Charity of South Florida.
The classes are open from 20 feet to 55 feet and even have a "Run what you brung" class. Many poker runners are signing up for a taste of real racing.

Sorry....I've been away.
No the plans do not include any TV....but there will be plenty of DVD sales of both the race and the old racers dinner on Friday night.
Sammy James, former Bertram head of racing will be there...he can be seen below, airing out some of the pre-step designs that were used back then.
This is what Real Open Ocean Racing used to be like. If you look close at the spray from the side exhaust, you will notice that this photo was taken as the boat had already begun it's descent...it was up higher before the shot!!!
Some of the legends of the sport will be there at the dinner, to share some stories never told....... and we plan on filming it for distribution.
