Went a couple hours south of here to Lake Cumberland yesterday to see the "Lake Cumberland Grand Prix", an event I never would have expected "'round these parts". Some friends and I rented a pontoon boat to watch, unfortunately it was overcast and 65 degrees but probably only 55 with the wicked wind chill.

This was my first time ever seeing these race boats and they were very impressive. There were various different classes racing in each race for a total of 4 races. I think the slowest class had twin 525 hp motors and the fastest, that neon green GEICO-sponsored boat had twin 1800 hp turbines (3600HP!). The announcer said it topped out at 190 mph, and on one lap it averaged 123 mph, on choppy water, on a lake in Kentucky!

Video isn't great because I was sitting on the front of the pontoon and we weren't allowed much closer than the other spectators as you can see. Enjoy!
