I Like Big Blocks and I Cannot Lie
In addition to the general rush of speed associated with go-fasts on the water, incredibly dramatic photo possibilities as well as the mind-blowing paintjobs and babes in bikinis... one of the things about hot boats that I like most is the audio experience of supercharged engines that is always part of the scene, whether it's a race, a poker run or just an outing with a few friends.
It's especially cool if there is a big group. This photo is a good example and I use it to explain my obsession to people that ask me why. I shot it from one of the pace boats as we were idling out of Sarasota Bay to start a poker run. There are at least two events held there each year and they are usually some of the most well-attended of all the annual get-togethers. Not all are visible in the shot, but there are 95 boats in that pack.

So, compare that to a NASCAR event, where you have about 40 cars- each with one engine that generates 700-800hp. Now, in that group of boats there may be a few single-engine v-bottoms, but all the rest have two engines (a few have three) and all are somewhere between 600 and 1400 hp. That's roughly 180 supercharged noisemakers. Granted, they don't run as close as cars on a track, and tend to spread out a bit in the open ocean, but for me the start of these things is nothing less than a religious experience.
Ok, just felt like sharing. And since this place is all about speed I figure a few shots of some of the fastest boats in the country might be appropriate.
