I purchased a Dinan S3 M3 and it just arrived in WA. I had it shipped there for registration since Dinan's site says it's 49-state legal. Well, apparently not. The tune blocks some OBD sensors and it wont pass emissions because of that. There is no sniff test of course, but their plug isn't collecting the data needed to pass it. It has OEM cats and there are no CELs, so it's technically legal, it just isn't relaying the information to prove that. Dinan wants to swap DMEs for the emissions and then swap back. I can't imagine this is free, let alone convenient.
Wondering if anybody has a friend at an emissions testing center that can maybe make this a little easier?
I've read about such help in CA so figured I'd throw it out there.

Honestly, ask around with local BMW shops or on M3 forums. I happen to know a guy who knows a guy with a white e92 M3, whose Akra exhaust won't pass a certain awesome state's emissions test.

 

Call H20 or J. Tang. I am sure they might know someone.

 

Will do, thanks guys. I have posted on M3F but feel bad posting this kind of thing on a forum where I am relatively new (like M3post or whatever).
Good news is that Dinan said they will help out for free. But it still requires removing my DME and swapping, and then swapping back.
Will check with the PNW OGs for advice.

Does your friend have the slip-on or the full exhaust? I wouldn't have figured that Texas - provided your amigo lives there - would have stringent emissions laws.

Wyatt I think you should have no problems finding a friendly emissions guy; alternatively, could you register the car elsewhere?

I also have a friend - who happens to have a 16-year old Porsche - that will not pass emissions due to the stupid SAI CEL. Rather than pay $$$ for a rebuild, he registered the car where his parents live, where there is no emissions testing. That crazy mofo might as well do a cat delete with all the money saved...

I have the full akra exhaust and that will not pass stringent emissions testing no matter what anyone says. In general Texas doesn't have stringent emissions testing, however, if your car is registered in a certain county (ie Travis or Harris) you must pass the electronic test. I tried to get the car inspected in south texas, but that when i learned the rules. I will be registering my next car in the same county as our ranch or I'll do it through my father who has residency in New Mexico as well, which has no vehicle inspections whatsoever.

Wyatt, trick is to find a specialist BMW shop and they will tell you how its done.
