CONGRATULATIONS TO GIAN VILLANTE & RYAN LAFLARE. GREAT JOB KEITH & THE STAFF OF BELLMORE KICKBOXING.
VILLANTE & LAFLARE WIN AT RING OF COMBAT
Saturday, February 20, 2010 - by Arias Garcia - special to MMAWeekly.com
Atlantic City, NJ — It was a good night if you were from the Bellmore Kickboxing Academy in Bellmore, New York. First, Ryan LaFlare was able to remain undefeated after knocking out Kurt Pellegrino protégé, Justin Haskins in the second round of their welterweight title bout.
The first round belonged to Haskins, but the WEC veteran couldn’t match the intensity of LaFlare’s stand-up game in the second. After failing to take LaFlare down, Haskins ate a straight left punch that put him on the mat forcing the referee to halt the bout and giving Bellmore Kickboxing their first title of the night.
The other Bellmore Kickboxing Academy member on the card, Gian Villante, continued his dominance in the ring with a lopsided drubbing of Mike Cook giving Villante the Ring of Combat Heavyweight Title. After landing a stiff left hand, Villante slammed the startled Cook and submitted him with a rear naked choke just 40 seconds into their title bout.
To his credit, Cook took the fight on less than a week’s notice after Brett Kohan was involved in a car accident that forced him to withdraw from the title fight. Villante versus Kohan would have been a great test and may never happen if Villante gets picked up by the UFC.
