2000 miles in on my 848 and I'm less then enthusiastic about the Ducati experience.

Suffice to say w/o a long winded thread- the bike, the ownership experience and dealer experience has me worried enough that I'll just sit tight with what I have and most likely seek another bike to buy. Numerous bolts vibrating off, throttle sticking wide open, tank expansion, paint bleeding, numb ride feeling- all on a VERY quick bike- and a complete lack of response from my dealer.

Sorry, this is one of the exact reasons why I love Porsche. The network of dealers alone is too great to deal with just one dealer if you're not happy and the product is as near flawless as you can get.

Exactly what I appreciated in my former RC51's. bullet proof bikes thus why I could enjoy not going to the dealer often.


So frustrating.

As for the 'wow' factor for owning a Ducati? Not really feeling it.

 

My friend feels the same w his MV ... I sold my DUC. Nothing Like a BMW, Yamaha or Honda.

If this is the universal feeling about Ducati; is it any shock they're in financial duress?

I really want to love this bike and Ducati.....but so far...they're making it extremely difficult for me.

 

Ducati is overrated. Been around them for years. Not on the same playing field as Yamaha Honda Suzuki. Not to mention 90% of them are conversation starters

 

Yes seems the dealer network support for both brands it weak

 

I'm so glad you posted this. I've been looking hard at some Ducs in my area. I've had Yamahas and Suzukis and wanted something with more "wow" factor. Maybe ill go with a buell or something....my BIL has 2 and they are great bikes.

 

this is unnexpected :/ I am not wholly surprised, however - 4 years ago when I was in the market for a midrange motorcycle I was devouring all bike reviews I came across. And the reviews for the 848 were not too good - bad brakes; yes, the bolts coming off - but that seems to be a Ducatti problem on all their bikes; numb steering - well, most problems you're confronted with.

Honda, Yamaha or BMW RR in the 1 liter bikes seem to all be winners.
Personally, reliability is a big factor. Get warranty on whatever you get

 

I have owned 2 Ducatis, an MV, and 2 Aprilias. I have not had any serious issues with them. Sure, they all had their quirks, but I guess I expect that. My dealer is also one of the most competent dealers in the area. Sorry you are having such a bad experience Chris.

 

Mannu, I loved my GSXR750. Had an 04 black and yellow one. Waaaaaay better than my R6 and not just because of the power difference. Just a better overall bike

 

I had an R1, and pounded the HELL out of it for more than 25K miles in 18 months, and it never had one issue other than needing new tires. I would say get rid of the DUC, and get a new CBR 1000RR, a ZX-10 or a newer R1. They are all pretty solid bikes.
