They don't. Maybe every season, but no more.
I'm not going every week so it's not a problem though.
choke - ahahah thanks! Sure is me! I'll work out to get some upper body strength and report back later in the winter. Arm-pump within literally 30s, loosened up after that but I just don't have the strength to handle the bike properly right now.

When I'm on a street bike I feel moderately in control, when I'm on a dirt bike I feel like I'm going to die at any second.

True dat! I put my gear on (boots, chest protector and helmet ... pants, jersey and gloves are useless) and felt uneasy for a second. It's really flimsy compared to the road gear.
Then I manned up.
Control was the opposite for me. Starting on the road was "well .. go sideways you stupid thing! Slide! How am I supposed to turn otherwise?"

Called XTown, they have quite the facility. They're having SnoX races there in a week, an ice oval (winter) and in the summer an outdoor MX track and enduro track in the woods.
I was going to suggest not learning on such a tight track, but there were several people who were clearly just beginning. While they weren't going fast, they still had a blast. Mind you ... everyone always has a huge grin on their face when they take the helmet off.
