In my case, the Quebec system will treat any claim regardless of how dumb you are.
Drunk drivers can and do receive $$$ from physical injuries caused by their own DUI accidents [insert facepalm here].
I haven't looked into it much more, but keeping this in mind, I don't see myself getting in trouble for wearing a superior/equivalent standard helmet, albeit not DOT.
But it is indeed something to look for when shopping around.

It is more of a concern for trackdays, and I have confirmed with a few organizations/tracks they do accept ECE 22.05 or Snell helmets.
