Post Ducati To Unveil New Diavel at EICMA

So, what's everyone's thoughts on this? To me, seems way out of character for Ducati to dip into the sport cruiser market -- although, I have to admit, I'm oddly intrigued.

Ducati - The name is Diavel

After months of speculation and spy photography the long wait is almost over, the Diavel will make its first public appearance at the EICMA International Motorcycle Show in Milan 2-7 November.

Officially announcing the new model's name ahead of the official presentation, the famous Italian manufacturer is about to turn another dream into reality, using the local Bolognese dialect word for "devil" in naming their new model Diavel - pronounced Dee-ah-vel.

The idea for the name was born early in the development process of the bike, when the prototype was assembled and wheeled out in front of a group of Ducati engineers and technicians for the first time. One person looking from the rear of the bike saw its silhouette and exclaimed in Bolognese dialect: "Ignurànt comm' al diavel!" Meaning: "Evil, like the devil!"

From then on, Diavel became the internal nickname for the project, which Ducati now makes official as it approaches the upcoming unveiling in Milan. Reminiscent of how the "Monster" was named 20 years ago, the Diavel is now destined to follow the same Bolognese tradition, shaping the future of motorcycling while staying faithful to its heritage.

Built to have a commanding presence, though lightweight and agile like all Ducatis, the Diavel will take the man-motorcycle relationship to the next level in absolute comfort. For connoisseurs of technology, ABS, Ducati Traction Control and Ducati Riding Modes will deliver a confidence-inspiring sophistication while stunning looks, the Superbike-derived Testastretta 11° engine and 207kg (456lb) of authentic Ducati performance will drive a comfortable sport lifestyle that could only be dreamt of until now.

The DIAVEL is on its way....

Here's a spy pic:

Same bike?

The much-rumored Ducati power cruiser that has been floating around the web for the past few months will officially be released at the EICMA International Motorcycle Show in less than a month’s time says the Italian manufacturer. It has also been officially announced that the new machine will be called the Diavel, which means Devil in the local Bolognese dialect of Italian.

The original idea for the name came early in the machine’s development process, when the prototype was first rolled out in front of a group of Ducati engineers and technicians. According to the release, when checking out the rear of the bike one of the techs saw its silhouette and exclaimed in Bolognese dialect: “Ignurànt comm’ al diavel!” Meaning: “Evil, like the devil!” And thus the name was born.

From that point on the project was nicknamed Diavel, which has now been announced as its official production name as the EICMA show approaches. This closely follows the same tradition as how the Monster line was named some 20 years ago, a legacy Ducati hopes the new machine will follow.

Some additional info on the machine was also revealed in the release, which states that it will be available with ABS, traction control and the Ducati Riding Modes system, and will be powered by the Testastretta engine, weighing a claimed 456 pounds. Ducati claims the new power cruiser will have a commanding presence, be lightweight and agile for its genre, while also delivering the “next level in absolute comfort.”

Check back for additional info as it becomes available.

I've alway said that if I ever entertained the idea of a cruiser, it would have to have sport bike characteristics.

I'd ride it, and I hate cruisers, so that's saying something.

If I were to ever buy a cruiser, this would be the one.
