Emotional Day - My Wrecked Ducati Monster 696 After My Accident [PICS]
#33
Dana, good to see you pulling together and getting the things that might cause you flashbacks behind you... The energy around the bike when you first saw it must have sent chills down your spine.
My dad wrecked motorcycles until his worst one, he still has the scars from the wrecks and can't lift his left arm more than 90 degrees, but it doesn't stop him from doing anything. He still has some great stories about his motorcycle days, and says if he gets crazy enough he'll buy another. He turns 70 in two days.
You will recover, and there will be good from this. You have a beautiful family and you're already "on the up and up" as my dad says.
I've said this before, but what you've lived through made us all stronger as a community.
You will be fully operational soon, but what you may not see is the group of people who have become friends with each other after uniting to support a common denominator- you.
I really appreciate the fact that you've made such a great turnaround as of late, it inspires myself and I think of your situation every time I see my dad nowadays.

Thanks Tim. That is a very thoughtful post. I'll remember it.
Here is the one and only pic taken of me in the hospital.
This pic was taken the day I was released from ICU.
Note that my left leg and right arm are being held together with external fixators. None of my orthopedic work had been done yet because I had not been given a better than even chance of surviving my internal injuries! I have a full tracheostomy and am breathing through a hole in my throat. Yuck.
Crazy. When I think about where I was, it is great to know where I am.

You are welcome brother.
And another thought -- As I mentioned before, you are genuine. This type of experience is the making of great things. Have you given any thought to motivational speaking? Not to profit from this event in your life, but to share the journey (and struggles) so that others on similar paths my find the strength as you did to persevere.

Dana, the pictures of the bike are nothing like the one of you lying in hospital! I am so so so glad that you are recovering well from your ordeal. I know it must have been incredibly hard for you to see your bike. Think of your bike as a friend and that it played its part in protecting you as best as it could. I'll be thinking of your experience when I ride my bike and try to be as careful as I can. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Unfortunately, I was not aware of your accident until quite late and was not able to offer my support when it was needed.
Be well and keep riding the road to full recovery.

Thanks for the pictures, and thanks for keeping us updated on your status. I'm so glad you are pulling through because this place just wasn't the same without you. I'll keep praying for you and your family throughout your road to recovery, and as always, would be willing to fly out there and keep the seats warm in the TT and 360....Just sayin!
Cheers!
Cheers!
