Kawasaki Pulls Out of MotoGP for 09

Sad news. Only two more manufacturers need to pull and it's no longer a championship.

The extremely well-informed Spanish magazine Motociclismo.es is reporting that Kawasaki's withdrawal from MotoGP has been made official. The factory has sent a letter to Dorna and the other factories announcing their withdrawal, and giving some explanation. The full public announcement is expect on Monday, January 5th 2009, according to Autosport.com.

Epic yawn when they did this in the 500gp years, I'm predicting the same.

Wonder what will happen to Hopper and his ego?

Thats so sad. Although Kawasakis are one of the best track bikes if not the best, they didnt have much luck in their GP seasons lately.. They didnt manage to get what they deserved thru their riders bad luck and so forth...So sad

Looks like it would cost them to much in fines to pull out...So now they're back in. I doubt they'll be trying very hard though.

Kawasaki Apparently No Longer Quitting MotoGP?
by dean adams

The press release from Kawasaki that was due on the fifth never came; in fact little more than a stony silence ever came from Kawasaki in the new year.
It's rumored that some correspondence from Spain to Japan did happen, where it is further rumored that Dorna notified Kawasaki that in accordance with the contract that they signed (with Dorna when they joined MotoGP) that Kawasaki would be on the hook for something like 20 million Euros for each of the 2009-2011 seasons if they decided to drop out of MotoGP.
Also, an MSMA (Motorcycle Sports Manufacturers' Association) meeting happened, but details from that are not known.
Reportedly, Dorna informed several of the parties involved today that Kawasaki is no longer dropping out of MotoGP and they will field a two-rider team in 2009. The management of the team seems to be up in the air, but indications are that there will be two green MotoGP bikes on the grid this season.
