Post Saleen introduces SMS 296 Supercharger for the Dodge Challenger

Steve Saleen and his new company SMS revealed today its SMS 296 Supercharger, the first in the company’s upcoming line of high-performance aftermarket parts. The unit is built to fit 2005-2009 HEMI 5.7L and 6.1L V8s, meaning most of the SRT and R/T line from Chrysler’s various brands will benefit, including the all-new Challenger.

Earlier this year, SMS announced the 570 and 570X Dodge Challengers, the company’s high-performance tuned versions of the car. Both are certified to be street legal, but offer either 500hp (373kW) in TM or 700hp (522kW) in XTM trim, thanks to the new SMS 296 Supercharger, which is standard equipment on both vehicles. Unlike the SuperShaker from Saleen’s SpeedLab aftermarket division, SMS has chosen to take a longer induction path in the interest of preserving the low-profile nature of the SMS 296 unit, allowing the conversion to remain under the stock hood for very stealthy applications.

The water-to-air intercooled unit features state-of-the-art asymmetric multi-lobe screws for maximum efficiency. It also features a bypass system to allow for off-boost cruising. A belt-driven pulley spins the screws to drive the compressed air into the engine, while the Venturi and high-flow filter help keep the flow at high speeds.

In addition to the engine power mods from the SMS 296 Supercharger, the 570 and 570X will also feature a full list of aftermarket modifications including new SMS branded drivetrain, suspension, braking, aerodynamics, tires, wheels and interior pieces. Production numbers will be based on the level of orders SMS receives for the new cars and each limited edition vehicle will be personally signed by Steve Saleen.
