Looks like the red is a ACR-X which is a race car.

I wonder who piloted this impressive time.

SRT group provided the driver.

I love this kind of competition.

On many other car related websites today the internet is on fire talking about how 'Ring times should be "banned" and other such hogwash.

Seriously, congrats to the Dodge boys. This can only make future supercars faster & better.

Always loved Vipers!

The red one had slicks and our spy photog seemed to think it was the black & silver car who ran the 7:12.

Interesting... The LFA did have a passenger in the car tho meaning extra weight.

There is quite a bit of wrong here, so let me help out.

The Viper that set the record time was the Black/Silver ACR driven by German driver Dominik Farnbacher. The backup Green ACR was driven by Tom Coronel who piloted the 2008 ACR to the previous record of 7:22.1. Both Vipers beat the ZR1 time handily, but the suspension was set up better on the B/S ACR and it set the record. The driver had extensive experience at the Ring. The red Viper is a non street legal ACR-X which runs on slicks and is a full blown race car. It ran a 7:03.

The Viper ACR's used were donated by Tomball Dodge in Texas. They were both brand new 2010 models running on the factory stock Pilot Sport Cups, the same tires the ZR1 ran on. These are the stock tire on all Gen 4 ACR's. The 2010 Vipers have improved aero and most importantly an improved fifth gear ratio to make it usuable unlike the '08 and '09 ACR's

Dodge rented the track for 1/2 day on Monday but at that time did not break the LF-A time. The track had some dampness from the morning but was not wet. The drivers and support personel knew the record could be broken on dry conditions and they returned on Wednesday to do just that.

Both of these Viper ACR's were stock off the dealers showroom. This was a joint effort by Tomball, Dodge, and Vulkan Racing Mintgen Motorsport.

Here is a link to the Monday action, the official record breaking video has not bee released yet.

Only during the hotlaps and 7:22 run. Only had the driver on board during the 7:14:6 run. Watch the video and you'll see some cables or wires flopping around on the passenger side.
