Post 2009 Corvette GT1 Championship Edition

Although General Motors is shutting down it's HPVO unit, the automaker has decided a special edition is in order to celebrate the the entry of the Corvette C6.R into the GT1 class of ALMS this year. Based off of your choice between the Corvette Coupe 4LT, Convertible 4LT or Z06, the 2009 Corvette GT1 Championship Edition comes swathed in the same yellow hue that adorns the C6.R or "41U" black, along with a "Jake" graphic that spans the Championship edition's hood. Chrome wheels and a body-colored spoiler pulled from the ZR1 join a "carbon pattern" engine cover, while inside a leather-wrapped ebony interior gets "GT1" embroidered on the seats, instrument panel and center console armrest. Those who opt for non-Z06 models also get the Z51 Performance Package and NPP Performance exhaust, and only 100 units of each model (600 total) will be available this spring, each carrying a $7,840 premium over standard models.

After continually raising the bar with each new model, starting with the C5 Z06 and culminating with the awesome ZR1, how can GM justify charging $7,500 for what basically amounts to a bunch of cosmetic upgrades that look tacky and cheap......

Especially calling it a GT1 championship edition. Is it me or do they think that buyers don't follow the ALMS and are not aware that they didn't even have a GT1 opponent for most the season. In fact the only race where they did have a decent opponent (Le Mans of course), they didn't exactly win. Nearly $8000 more than a standard Z06, give me a break. How about a "We Need Your Money" edition with a stripped out interior so that the buyer can add his own rollbar and seats, without paying for the crappy interior that Corvettes do come with. This would be cheaper to produce and more to the point.

Looks great but I have an idea. There should be a ZR1 model that has the "Jake" skull logo laser etched into the plexiglass engine window thingy! Then, have a few LEDs at the edges that would illuminate the "Jake" logo every time the driver mashed the throttle 100%.

Gimmicy? Yes. Insanely cool? IMO, yes!!!
