Post "V12's are safe"-Ferrari

Ferrari and Lamborghini are both holding back from turbocharging the engines for their next generation of top-line supercars because of the traditional preference of their customers for normally aspirated powerplants.

Although Ferrari is widely expected to adopt turbocharging for future generations of its V8 models, its boss Amedeo Felisa has hinted that the next Enzo will continue to feature a V12 powerplant, possibly mated to an electric motor.

“That is why we are developing hybrid technology,” said Felisa. “Hybrid means we can protect the V12.”

Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann confirmed that while the firm was investigating all the major engine technologies, it currently has no plans to introduce turbocharging as a way of reducing CO2 emissions and preserving performance.

Instead, Lambo intends to pursue fuel economy gains through lightweight materials, as previewed by the stripped-down Gallardo Superleggera launched at this spring’s Geneva motor show.
