Ferris Bueller's Ferrari 250GT for sale

A REPLICA Ferrari 250GT Spyder California sportscar used in the hit 1980s teen flick Ferris Bueller's Day Off will go under the hammer in Britain next month. The car is expected to fetch between £30,000 and £40,000 ($49,000 to $65,000) at a Bonhams Collectors' Motor Cars and Automobilia auction on April 19.

Only about 100 genuine 250GT Spyder Californias were created by Ferrari between 1958 and 1963.As examples are very rare and expensive, filmmakers Paramount opted to commission and build two replicas for the movie starring Matthew Broderick.

The film, voted by readers of Total Film magazine as the 23rd greatest comedy of all time, follows Ferris and two friends skipping high school for a day and borrowing the Spyder California from one of their fathers. In one famous scene, the car is destroyed.

The surviving replica is the one going on sale.

I'm not sure, I guess it depends what's under the hood

Ferris Bueller’s ‘Choice’ Ferrari for Sale - Wheels Blog - NYTimes.com

Bonhams A replica 1961 Ferrari 250GT California Spyder used in the film “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” will be sold at auction next month.

Fans of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” who couldn’t talk themselves into spending $2.3 million for Cameron Frye’s house (in a down market, no less) now have a second chance to blow excessive amounts of cash on film memorabilia.

The high-priced item in question is the 1961 Ferrari 250GT California Spyder that Ferris; his girlfriend, Sloane; and his dyspeptic pal Cameron take for a joyride in John Hughes’s 1986 teen classic. The car will auctioned by Bonhams in London on April 19 and is expected to fetch from $45,000 to $60,000.

This may sound like a steal, but caveat emptor: It’s not a real 250GT. The car is actually a replica, a modified MG with a fiberglass body made especially for the film, according to
the Internet Movie Database, and the only surviving model. (Given the car’s fate in the movie, it’s understandable why an actual Ferrari wasn’t used.)

Still, it was good enough for Ferris. “It is so choice,” Matthew Broderick’s character says of the car. “If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.” At least two Chicago parking attendants would surely concur.

With this second Bueller-related auction, we’re left one short of a trend. Any chance that Georges Seurat’s “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte” will go on the block soon?

Yea when i found out it was a replica i was disappointed,

Still £40k for a good quality replica is good, although i remember reading it had a smaller engine than the real deal ?

hmmmm, for that money I'd rather have an Intermeccanica replica, their craftsmanship is just awesome ....
