Heading to Italy - Want to visit Maranello

Hi guys,

Me and my girlfriend are going to a place called Desenzano in a few days, for a few days. I tought it would be cool to see Maranello because were staying in a town quite nearby, but I dont exactly know what there is to see and do...

Of course there's the museum Galleria Ferrari but is there anything else? The track? The factory? How do we get the most out of going there, cause it's quite a long trip for us.

Also, do any of you guys know the easiest way to get there by train or bus? Any real travelling tips would be awesome!

It's a great visit, but try and have lunch at the restaurant right outside the gates. They have tons of Ferrari memoribilia and when I was there years ago Eddie Irvine was having lunch at the table next to us...

Enjoy.

Make way to Sant'Agata while you're there as well - it's not far. And I actually liked the Lambo place better.

(I have no idea how to get there without a car though - it's in the middle of nowhere out on the countryside.)

When I went we rode the train into Modena and then took a cab (~15 mins) to the factory/galleria/track in Maranello. You might get lucky and see some F1 testing action on Fiorano, but the only sure fire thing you can do is go to the Galleria. Nearby there is probably the world's nicest Ferrari shop and the Montana ristorante (the famous one).

You ain't gettin' inside the gates of the factory without a golden ticket

That's not always the case - I could just walk right in, but heard of others who got stuck outside the gate.

So make sure to call them up in advance to arrange your visit. Traveling all the way there just to see the restaurant and the gift shop is sort of like bringing home that sorority chick from Entourage and find out she has menstrual cramps and prefer "to just talk".

Wow, didn't know that. Next time I'm there I'll just say "Hai guise! Jox sent me!"

We went to the Galleria from Florence, we had to take a bus to Modena, then catch another one to Maranello... It was very easy though, I'd recommend going that route.

We didn't get to see the Museum because you have to make reservations ahead of time. The locals were very familiar with the Museum tour so they can probably help you get tickets ahead of time.

I swear, as soon as we got off the bus in Maranello all you can hear is the sound or Ferrari engines being tested, all day long... It's heavenly.

Confident in our ability to find the factory, we set off. The first thing we did wrong was to miss the exit on to the Autostrada. Twenty minutes later, we returned to the correct exit and made for the town of Maranello, due south of Modena. Thirty minutes further on, we finished our exploration of the northern fringes of Modena and finally began to head south. A recurring question I asked myself was, why does the Italian countryside have so many dead ends? And surely we've been up all of them by now?

Thirty minutes and one police car later, we had been been up every single road and there was nowhere else left to go other than Maranello. And so we arrived. Now Maranello is not a small town. In fact it has a population of some thousands, there are numerous streets, and there was no evidence of a high performance car factory.

We tried numerous streets and looked down various passages, none of which contained anything as large as a Ferrari factory. After half an hour of fruitless searching, I got out of the delivery van and heaved a sigh of exasperation. At that very minute I heard a distinctive noise in the distance, the high pitched scream of a Formula One engine.
