Not rice at all.
One of the few options available on the GTO was the sport or "F1" exhaust. The theory was, those megaphones helped scavenge the exhaust better and provided better performance and were louder than the regular mufflers.

I can't believe I've never posted about this! Just never came up or slipped my mind one.
During spring break of my senior year of high school, I was in Italy with a tour group comprised of the majority of my closest friends and parts of our respective families.
One night, while we were in Florence, my dad was in the lobby of our hotel after dinner. A well-dressed Italian man came over and started talking to my dad about the state of Virginia; my dad was wearing a baseball cap advertising the name of the college which I attend, which is in a small town in the Commonwealth. The Italian guy obviously assumed that my dad was from Virginia. Thirty minutes later, my dad knew that this gregarious individual was the owner of the hotel, and that his wife had gone to the University of Virginia (not where I go to school, but nearby). Furthermore, my dad filled him in on the remainder of the itinerary, which included a detour to Maranello for the two of us).
Then I got a phone call.
The owner of the hotel also happened to own a 288 GTO, and he had it parked out front. I got to go on a very memorable 20 minute ride around the city center of Florence, a ride that showcased blatant disregard for the rules of the road, including speed limits!
It was a great car and a great experience; Maranello and Fiorano almost seemed like a letdown the next day!
