And now on to the fun stuff...



Starting from an SE-V2 frame kit (which I disassembled and rebuilt) I built a completely custom, well-balanced, easy-to-fly, high-quality component heliopter that will bring hours and hours of fun through not just your learning curve but through even your advanced stages of 3D helicopter flight.

All you need to add is a transmitter. I used a Futaba 7C. If you use a Futaba 7C then I can give you the exact setup parameters to get into the air immediately after you bind.

The Scorpion 2221-8 motor combined with the Castle 45amp ESC provides the power for high performance 3D aerobatics while also providing the stability, smoothness, and immediacy needed for beginners while learning simple hovering and maneuvering.

The Outrage G5 head and tail components are much higher quality than those pieces provided by Align for the SE v2. They are much stronger and move more precisely and smoothly than any other components available for the T-Rex 450.

The Helicommand 3D, including configuration interface, is already installed and ready to help you learn flying! It can act as a recovery "safety net" by stabilizing your helicopter in those situations when things start to get out of control and can save you hundreds of dollars of repairs with the single flick of a switch on your remote!
Already know how to fly? The HC 3D has very fast reflexes, responding as quickly as a Futaba 401 gyro, but also allowing a configuring amount of "return to center" which allows you to progressively move from a "safe" flying environemnent to a more flexible and free flying environment.

High speed servos and quality running gear are already aligned and ready to go! I used the highest quality components from the rotor blades to the servos to the gears to the belt...no expense was spared! Dual independent instrument systems and sophisticated software for excellent reliability

1) Electronic triple-axis gyro with accurate attitude control and artificial horizon, completely independently of the visible horizon.

2) New type of sensing process provides stable positional hold.

Integral functions

Tail rotor gyro

The HeliCommand unit includes an integral fully-featured heading hold gyro as standard. Of course, a separate gyro can be used as an alternative if required.
Auto-Trim
The system also features automatic trim. Pressing a button at the transmitter automatically neutralises the three control axes elevator (pitch-axis), aileron (roll-axis) and tail rotor. The auto-pilot trim is only required during the first flight (after initial installation). However, the trim can also be used during manual control. The automatic trim system only requires a period of reasonably smooth flight lasting at least seven seconds in order to define correct trim values. The values are stored, but can also be amended at any time.
Swashplate mixer
The system also includes an integral fully-featured swashplate mixer (H1, H3 90°/120°/140°, H4 90°/90+45°), which makes it possible to control any current type of helicopter using a simple radio control system (without swashplate mixers). In this case the USB-PC-adaptor and PC-software are required to set up the syste (included in all HeliCommands from July 2010!).
The mixers are set up using a new, straightforward procedure, avoiding the need for the user to study menu systems etc.



PILOT channel

The effect of the stabilisation / positional mode is infinitely variable via a separate radio control channel; it can also be switched off for 3D flying.
Three levels of regulation can be selected in flight:
- Stage 0 = Off (conventional)
- Stage 1 = Attitude regulation (stabilisation)
- Stage 2 = Positional and “ground-speed” regulation



Failsafe

A superior fail-safe function for use with FM receivers. If the radio link fails, fail-safe responds very quickly and virtually continuously: the aileron and elevator functions are returned to neutral, while the collective pitch function retains the last valid value.



Attitude stabilisation while flying inverted and brief 3D manoeuvres

Excellent as a supplementary switchable flying aid, or as an “emergency button” during brief 3D manoeuvres

More info on the Scorpion 2221-8 Motor

Scorpion HK Series Brushless Motors are built from the best materials available, and are designed to provide both quality and performance at an affordable price. Scorpion starts with high quality aluminum alloy parts that are produced on the latest CNC milling machines. These parts are then gold anodized to provide a beautiful, long-lasting finish. The stators are made with 0.2mm laminations to give maximum efficiency, and minimum Eddy current losses. The stators are epoxy coated to prevent shorts, and are wound with wire that is rated at 180 degrees C (356 F). The magnets used in Scorpion Motors are custom manufactured to be able to withstand temperatures of up to 200 degrees C (392 F).

All Scorpion HK Series 22mm motors come with 3.5mm male Bullet style connectors already attached, and include a hardware package that contains 3 matching female Bullet connectors for your speed controller, heatshrink to cover the bullet connectors and mounting screws. Since the HK series motors are primarily designed for Helicopter and Ducted Fan use, they do not include a prop adapter. If you intend on running a prop on this motor, you will need to purchase a prop adapter for a 3.17mm shaft (1/8 inch).

Scorpion Motors are built to last, and are backed with a 2-Year warranty against defects in materials or workmanship. However, due to the high RPM of these motors, and the fact that we cannot control the installation and setup, the bearings are not covered by the 2-Year warranty, nor is any subsequent damage caused to the motor by a bearing failure. Bearings are a normal wear item, and as such, need to be maintained and changed periodically. For maximum life, make sure that a sufficient gap is left between the pinion and main gear during motor installation to avoid binding, and put a small drop of oil on each bearing every 5-6 flights. It is the responsibility of the pilot to ensure that the bearings are maintained properly.
