P1 MIGHT time lower than the 918, and thats a BIG IF, won't sniff the Zonda time. big deal if it goes under 7mins, been there done that by the 918 Spyder. If P1 doesn't break 6:48, it's legend will be seen as just a TUNED overpriced 12C! Definitely not F1 material

That car is so different than a 12c. I completely disagree that it will be seen this way. Weather it breaks 7 or not. It's a car that will be viewed as a game changer in supercars

 

It seems you take it(ring test) more serious than it is.

Porsche drove on their record day about 7-8 attepts till they broke the 7min barrier. They were only 2x times under 7min. Röhrl and a few other guys drove 7:08, 7:06, 7:03 etc. and thats the final spec.

So if Mclaren did a 7:04 at the ring test, that would be amazing. You have to remember Porsche developed the 918 on the Ring for about 2 years? Dont know how long they've been testing, but it was over a year.

Since when is mcLaren testing the car? 6 month? I dont know, but they're still in an early phase, not to mention early regarding to the Ring where Porsche was at home for the last years.

Like I said before, If McLaren seriously drove 7:04, this laptime ist just amazing. But only if you know the facts you will agree to this. If Porsche would have posted the 7:08 from Rörhl on the record day, everyone would be disappointed, of course they didn't. So always look whats happening backstage. You and some other guys here totaly misunderstood the laptimes(like the guys here did with the 918 "standing start" laptime).
Some of you think if you build a hypercar you go to the ring and just break the 7mins. It's not like that. The fact that porsche needed 4-5 different drivers and about 8 attempts prove, that there are a lot of trys needed till the maxtime is set, not to mention a lot of development work on the ring which McLaren don't have till now.

So please stop comparing a rumoured P1 7:04 with the 918s Record time.

Thats totally bullshit. How the hell did you come up with the Zonda R's 6:47? Is it clear to you that the Zonda R and the P1 are totally different cars? I guess you are the only guy on this planet who is comparing the Zonda R to the P1. You have just to look at the specs on both cars and you know that the Zonda R is on a different level than all Hypercars.

Marc Basseng(Zonda Ringtime driver) told himself, the Zonda R is like a Group C Car from the old days. If a race driver say this, you know the shit is serious.

If McLaren beat the 918 time by 2-3 sec. it will be a great time. But to push the car to the limit, McLaren need a Ring expert like Marc Basseng, Marc Lieb etc.

Until then, don't take every laptime to serious, it doesen't say anything about whats possible with the car.

 

^^This. Marc Basseng also said that the Zonda R can be 15 seconds faster than the record time. Pagani didn't push the car to the limit because it was a customer car, not the factory prototype. The P1, probably, can do a 6:50, but the Zonda can do a 6:35.

A tuned 12C... C'mon! The monococque is different, the crash structures are different, the propulsion system is different... Almost everything is very similar, but different.
