McLaren estate takes shape
Exclusive images show how the McLaren shooting brake estate could look when it arrives as early as 2014
McLaren is working on a top-secret shooting brake estate, Auto Express has learned – and we’ve produced these exclusive images to show how it could look.
The new model will be based on the MP4-12C and will be similar in concept to the Ferrari FF – although it won’t have the Ferrari’s £230,000 price tag. Instead, McLaren will position the car as a more practical alternative to range-topping Porsche 911s, with a price of around £150,000.
The two-seater will have more boot space than the MP4-12C, but will still offer the same incredible performance. That’s thanks to its lightweight carbon-fibre construction and 592bhp 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 – which will deliver 0-60mph in around three seconds and a top speed of 205mph.

you do not think the MP4 is good looking? I dont know how many/if you have seen it in person but reserve until you have.... if you want ugly look at the front of a 458 and the back of the FF....the 458 looks good from ass end and sides only..

And i fully agree with what you are saying about the FF. I could never agree with the backs of the FF, F12, or the front of the California.

I have not seen one in person. I've only seen one that looked tolerable and it was in white.
I have however seen 458s in person and absolutely love it from every angle, except in Yellow. I don't like them in yellow, but still love the curves.
The Mclaren looks like a childs toy to me. Maybe if I say it inperson id change my mind.

I felt the same way. Since I have seen the 12C in person and next to a 458, I have a new appreciation for it. The 458 photos well but the front looks like a catfish. There are some other displeasing angles but the what bothers me most is the three tip exhaust and the round tail lights. I know that they relate to other Ferraris but they could have finished the rear off a bit better. I agree that the Mclaren is not as exotic but it's form is very pleasing in person. The softening of the lines makes the car more unique than the hard edge wedge shapes from Italy. My greater criticism is with the interior. It is definitely a function first car but for 285K they could have given the buyer a bit more wow.
