Rumormill: McLaren MP4-12C Spider

According to a bunch of spy shots floating around the web and the good folks at auto-motor-und-sport.de, McLaren is seemingly working on a spider variant of the 12C, possibly called the MP4-12S. The word is McLaren will use a super light carbon fiber roof for the spider that will flip backwards and retract into a compartment between the engine and passengers. The use of carbon fiber will help the roof weigh far less than a conventional soft top.

The rear of the vehicle is said to be constructed differently from the coupe as well with the rear deck to be a relatively flat surface similar to the 458 Spider, but again these are only rumors for now. Power will be the same outstanding 3.8-liter V8 twin turbo that puts out of a massive 608 hp.

should be easy job for McLaren benefiting from the carbon tub. the chassis rigidity should just be as good as the coupe.

I think the vert will be awesome. This car has really been growing on me and I usually don't like convertibles, but I think I am going to like it.
