He's only 5, and was offered the chance for a ride in both the Mclaren and a Ferrari 458 today by a kind owner in Brighton. Suffice to say he enjoyed every minute of it, from the tunnel runs in each car to the sounds to the acceleration.....
Videos are to come, but for now....

and the 458

Something similar to what Robbie said i seem to remember!!!
Like the difference between a V8 vantage and a 911,strange then that the Aston got berated for sounding better but not being as quick as the porsche!!Seems British cars get a raw deal from the media.
Sorry ranting again

But you are missing a few other factors that are contributin to the Vantage receiving criticism and the 911 being glorified. Price and driving characteristics for example. I've only driven the 911 and not a Vantage but from what I've read and heard the Porsche is simply a more rewarding car to drive and the Vantage doesn't justify the price tag in comparison. I'm referring to the Porsche 997 and not the 991 here.
So on the same remit the ASTON should be better than the porsche as it sounds better even though it is slower.
So its all in a NAME that people relate to passion, nothing to do which is the better car.(12c to 458 that is,IMO)just saying,as there are no rules as everyone has a choice

I get what you're saying, but it's not only just the sound people are jump on. I think the review that was the hardest on the McLaren was Fifth gear with Tiff and Jason and I can't recall them even mentioning the sound as a negative thing. Same with Jeremy Clarksson, though his reviews are not very scientific if you know what I mean. It seems not everyone agrees with you that the McLaren is in fact a better car, although that of course depends on how you define "better". If you look at the numbers, the McLaren is definitely a better car. It's cheaper, more ecological, faster in a straight AND on track. But some people may think "better" is highly subjective and not something you can put a number on, in which case other factors like personal preference are more important. Quite a number of car journalists seem to think the McLaren lacks passion and character in many ways, of which the sound is one aspect.
I only wish I had the chance to drive them both and find out for myself...
