Maserati Birdcage for sale at Mecum auction in Monterey next month...
This type of monkey business really gets under my skin, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's not the first time this has happened. They're selling a car built up with some parts that may or may not have come from the original, as "the car". The guys on the Nostalgia Forum caught it and contacted Mecum. RM smartly passed on this car.

It begs the question: If a car is "rebuilt" from parts of the original (or in this case, maybe even from other cars, or maybe not) and then stamped with the chassis number of the original that no longer exists, does that make it "authentic"?
