guys with mustangs/vettes do it all the time.
people tried it with 996TT's but the heat from the turbos often broke them
Y pipe with a electronic switch on one of the tails.
open it send it the exhaust through the straight pipe, closed it blocks it off and forces the exhaust through the muffler.

I used to have a DMH E-Cutout on my Legacy Spec B... It really is the best of both worlds, at the flip of a switch you go from stock exhaust to a straight dump at the bottom of your header(s).
