The BMW N54 engine relies heavily on adequate boost pressure to make its impressive power figures. Without a properly functioning boost/vacuum system, power loss, acceleration hesitation, and decreased fuel economy are all likely consequences.
For this particular engine, a common source of boost leaks is the boost solenoid, oftentimes bleeding off pressure so badly that the car struggles to accelerate.

If you notice a worn CV boot and a rusted or broken axle shaft, investing in a complete axle shaft assembly is the wisest decision for several reasons. Ease of installation is a primary benefit to using an axle shaft assembly; the clamps, cv boots, and seals are all pre-installed, taking the guesswork out of the parts selection process. Also, by replacing both cv boots at the same time, the assembly wears at the same rate, making parts replacement simpler in the future.
