BMW Issues Stop on M5 and M6 Deliveries

Owners Asked To Stop Driving Due to Oil Pump Issue

BMW has issued an immediate stop order on new M5 and M6 deliveries due to a discovery of faulty oil pumps. The oil pumps may fail suddenly and result in "severe engine damage" due to a complete loss of oil pressure. For those who have already received their new M-car, BMW advises you not to drive them in the interim.

Before you panic or head out to the garage to take a sledge hammer to your new M-car, not all VIN's are affected. The good folks at bimmerpost has put up the list of recalled M-cars after the jump below.

Are they going to recall that stupid fabricated engine noise button so they could be respected as a car company again? That would be a good idea lol

Well my dad's car is on the vin list and he's only had the car for about ten days at this point. This all started when an M5post member's car was striken by the faulty fuel pump, while he was on Euro Delivery. It sounds like that gentlemen's engine may be ruined.

I'm obviously very interested to see how BMW handles this. I read about it this morning and since I am in Singapore, I don't even know if the dealer has contacted my dad. Supposedly, BMWNA has been telling owners to not drive their cars and that a 'letter' should be going out middle of next month with the recall plan. Sounds like it was a bad batch of fuel pumps on the July - Sept built cars and only US M5/M6s were affected.

Dealership should send a transport carrier out to pick up the car and take it in to have the pump replaced.

I know the M5 isn't your dad's only vehicle but "middle of next month" seems like a long time to wait for something to happen.
